Mock Draft 2.0

Updated: Apr 29, 2021

1. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars: This is chalk at this point. Write it in Stone, blood, ink, whichever you prefer but Lawrence should and will be the selection.

2. Zach Wilson, New York Jets: This one is a lock as well, but not quite lock of the century. A lot of outlets are reporting he has been sniffing around New York. I’m buying what their selling.

3. Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers: I’m sticking with my original pick and sending Trey Lance to the 49ers. He is extremely intelligent, has a rocket arm, and is a +++ athlete. He could be ready day one in my opinion, but if they elect to sit him a year get off the Garoppolo contract next year, that fits their window as well.

4. Penei Sewell, Atlanta Falcons: I’m also sticking with Sewell at 4, trade back is an option but the price is going to be astronomical. Fontenot loves building through the trenches from his New Orleans background, and he continues that trend in Atlanta. Not to mention the new man in charge of the offense loves running the ball as well.

5. Jamar Chase, Cincinnati Bengals: I think Joey B would love to throw to his former College Wideout, and I think the Bengal’s brass is all about keeping Burrow happy. The reunion will be a happy one as Bengals love to go 5 wide and sling around the yard.

6. Kyle Pitts, Miami Dolphins: I do believe that the Dolphins could still go Slater here, but with a lot of hype around Pitt’s name lately, it leads me to believe that they will stack the deck for Tua heading into 2021. Pitts gives Miami flexibility with Giesecki, and if they elect to extend him they can have some creative formations moving forward.

7. Rashawn Slater, Detroit Lions: Dan Campbell is also a New Orleans product who loves the trenches, and its clear he wants physical players after his intro presser. They look to build in the trenches with the former Northwestern Wildcat, who can help them establish a knee-biting persona.

8. Patrick Surtain ll, Carolina Panthers: With Lineman off the board, and Darnold in tow, Panthers continue the defensive build selecting the best Corner in the draft. Surtain can come in and provide Day 1 help at a position that is considered a huge need for Carolina.

9. Mac Jones, Chicago via Denver (CHI sends 20th pick/2022 1st/2022 3rd): Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy look to make a move and buy more time on the front office’s ticking clock on their jobs. They get a QB of the future, who can come in and compete and possibly win the job day 1. No worries about future capital as they won’t be here to use if this doesn’t pan out anyway.

10. Jaycee Horn, Dallas Cowboys: Cowboys interviewed Kyle Pitts and he spoke glowingly of the former South Carolina Gamecock. We all know Jerry Jones loves him some Kyle Pitts, why not get the best corner he faced to help build your defense? Dallas’ defense was abysmal last year, Horn can come in and start Day 1 opposite Trevon Diggs.

11. Devonta Smith, New York Giants: Gettleman tried his best to trade back for the first time in his 8 years drafting, and the attempt was pretty weak (since everyone knew he was lying). Its no secret as well that he is trying to build the offense as best as he can to support Daniel Jones. He gets a steal of a WR here that will help leave no excuses for Danny Dimes heading into 2021.\

12. Jaylen Waddle, Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles get one of the fastest and best receivers in the draft, which is something they desperately need. The Alabama product is a similar version to their round 1 receiver last year (Jaelan Raegor), but better! Phili fans rejoice in their ideal selection.

13. Caleb Farley, Los Angeles Chargers: With the team speaking high of Trey Pipkins, they turn to the defense to help build the secondary in Staley’s first draft. They get a player who, if healthy, is arguably the best corner in the draft as Brandon Staley get’s his new version of (hopefully) Jalen Ramsey.

14. Justin Fields, Pittsburgh Steelers (via Minnesota, PIT sends 24th pick, 55th pick, and a 2022 5th rounder) : Tomlin shakes up the draft and stops Justin Fields slide at 14. The Roethlisberger extension should not inspire confidence. Recent Fields health questions (foolish IMO) may push him down the board. In a league where teams passed on DK Metcalf and Maurice Hurst due to health issues, I can see it happening but I don’t personally agree with it. Fields falls into a perfect position with the perfect coach who has been quoted saying “he hopes to never be bad enough to draft a guy like him” well here he gets in him a trade up.

15. Christian Barmore, New England Patriots: The league loves Christian Barmore, and Bill brings in his old Pal Nick’s top IDL to shore up their Defensive front. Barmore has incredible burst and really came on late last year, as he looks to build the New England D-Line back to prominence

16. Alijah Vera-Tucker, Arizona Cardinals: Cardinals get the third best lineman in the draft in the former USC Trojan. He has some versatility, able to play various different spots. However, I believe Kingsbury will fit AVT day one at one of the two Guard spots.

17. Teven Jenkins, Las Vegas Raiders: In the most Gruden-esque move of the draft, the Raiders select the mauling Jenkins to help support their depleted offensive line corps. He comes from a big program and is known for his high character, so naturally Mayock will love him as well.

18. Micah Parsons, Miami Dolphins: The fall ends for Parsons, and he ends up in a dream scenario with Miami. He can be used in various fronts and roles and finds the perfect home under Flores.

19. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Washington Football Team: Ron Rivera gets his second coming of Thomas Davis, as JOK can roam free behind the best defensive front in the NFL. Strong move for an ascending team.

20. Levi Onwuzurike, Denver Broncos: Shocking move after trading back with Bears, but the Broncos look to build their defense further. With IDL being shallow, they get one of the few impact players that can help build their front 7.

21. Jaelan Phillips, Indianapolis Colts: If the medicals check out, Jaelan Phillips is the best pass rusher in this draft, and a steal at 21. This helps give Eberflus’ stout defense a new dimension as they build off last season.

22. Greg Newsome, Tennessee Titans: Newsome is the best CB still available, and Tennessee lost two this off-season. They did add Janoris Jenkins, but still need help at the position as they look to upgrade their defense.

23. Jayson Oweh, New York Jets: Oweh posted the fastest 40 time for a DL we may have ever seen. But sacks are a major concern. He showed promise in the run game and was able to generate pressure but just never finished. He can learn in Salah’s system and develop behind Carl Lawson and grow with the new staff in New York.

24. Kwity Paye, Minnesota: After trading back, Minnesota gets the guy they may have taken at . Kwity Paye is the definition of FREAK, having an agility numbers that are better than most receivers and corners. He will pair nice opposite Danielle Hunter as Zimmer can help him grow as a pro.

25. Trevon Moehrig, Jacksonville Jaguars: The best safety in the draft finally comes off the board. Also, arguably the best available player, Jacksonville gets a versatile piece at one of their highest needs.

26. Rashod Bateman, Cleveland Browns: Browns add some firepower to their deep offense with WR4 in this draft. Bateman tested higher than expected, and with Rashad Higgins on a one-year deal, he can learn the offense and take over next year. He’s extremely versatile, able to play inside or out, which will help earn playing time behind their deep receiver corps.

27. Zaven Collins, Dallas Cowboys (via BAL Cowboys send 44th pick, 99th Pick, 2022 6th rounder): Dallas loves Zaven Collins, as the continue to transform their defense that ranked near bottom statistically last season. Collins is a former All-American that can play a number of Roles for Dan Quinn’s squad that lacked playmakers under Mike Nolan last year.

28. Jamin Davis, New Orleans Saints: New Orleans gets the high rising linebacker at the tail end of the first. The former Kentucky LB is an athletic freak who has a ton of upside but was only a 1 year starter. Davis can also help fill the void left by the parting Kwon Alexander.

29. Samuel Cosmi, Green Bay Packers: Packers LOVE big time athletes, and Cosmi tested out of this world in the 40/3 cone/shuttle. He has ideal Tackle length and can come compete day 1 for the RT job, or learn behind the league’s best in Bahktiari.

30. Najee Harris Buffalo Bills: It’s no secret the Bills run game was non-existent, so Brandon Beane takes a big swing on Harris after filling all other needs (21 of 22 starters returning, plus Emmanuel Sanders). Harris is a complete back that can do it all, at a high level. Helping Buffalo build on their deep Playoff run.

31. Alex Leatherwood, Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens go back to the Alabama well and select the versatile Leatherwood with the pick they got in the Orlando Brown Jr. trade. They get a player who can step in day one, in exchange for a player who no longer wanted to play in B-more. Fair trade in my opinion.

32. Rondale Moore, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: What do you get a team that returns every starter? How about a do-it-all gadget player that can replace your WR3-4? Rondale Moore is on the moon in terms of athleticism, but at 5’7 has some questions. He can man the slot for the departed AB, and possibly be used on jet sweeps and out of the backfield to help the World champs.
